Mesa County RSVP and SHIP

The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (or SHIP) helps Medicare enrollees navigate the Medicare system and provides free, unbiased and individualized information. Mesa County RSVP’s SHIP volunteer counselors do not sell insurance plans and are not compensated in any way.

Mesa County Workforce Center

A service of Mesa County. Provides no-cost assessments, workshops, recruitment assistance, business services, education, training and resources for job seekers and businesses.

Business Incubator Center

The Business Incubator Center (BIC), a globally recognized non-profit, fosters economic growth in Mesa County by providing comprehensive support to startups and existing businesses, resulting in significant job creation, revenue generation, and community investment over its decades of operation.

Adult Learning Center

The Adult Learning Center at Mesa County Libraries offers free, intensive English and GED classes, with Spring 2025 enrollment closed and Fall 2025 registration opening in June, while also working to expand less-intensive learning options.

Grand Valley Connects

A free program for eligible Mesa County citizens with unmet life needs such as childcare needs, behavioral health concerns, food needs, medical health coverage, disability services, veteran services, and help with utilities to find the services they need.

211 Colorado

211 Colorado provides a confidential, multilingual, statewide service that simplifies access to essential community resources like shelter, childcare, and financial assistance through a single, easy-to-use phone number.

Family and Child Services

Hilltop Family Community Resources

This comprehensive program offers free, holistic support for families and youth, encompassing prenatal care, basic needs assistance, individualized home visits, developmental screenings, goal setting, mentoring, healthcare referrals, parenting education, wraparound services, and crisis intervention, all aimed at fostering family well-being.

B4 Babies & Beyond

A free program that helps families access affordable, quality health care through confidential assistance with all paperwork. They also provide assistance setting up appointments, getting transportation to and from appointments, translation services, as well as education and support on nutrition, growth and development, healthy lifestyles, and the Baby & Me Tobacco Free program.

STRiVE – People Supporting People

STRiVE offers customized, comprehensive services for individuals with developmental disabilities across all ages, from infants and toddlers to adults, and provides support to their families, aiming to maximize their potential and independence.

WIC

A free program for eligible pregnant and postpartum parents as well as families with children under age 5 to help educate parents on healthy diets, healthy pregnancies, successful breastfeeding, and overall provides support and inspiration to raise healthy kids.

Food Assistance

211 Colorado

Community Food Bank of Grand Junction

This food bank provides appointment-only food assistance, requiring new clients to register in person or by phone, and limits service to 24 visits per year, with specific public pantry hours and appointment policies.

Food Bank of the Rockies

Food Bank of the Rockies combats hunger across Colorado and Wyoming by distributing food and necessities through a network of partner agencies, emphasizing equitable access to nourishment and utilizing an online pantry locator to connect individuals with nearby food distribution sites, rather than providing direct pick-up at their centers.

Grand Valley Catholic Outreach offers inclusive, non-discriminatory services, including housing support, emergency aid, and food assistance, inviting community collaboration to serve those in need.

Housing and Shelter

Housing Resources of Western Colorado

Housing Resources of Western Colorado provides services to renters, homebuyers, and homeowners on the Western Slope. These services include, but are not limited to, navigating rental searches, helping prepare for homeownership, and managing the challenges of homeownership.

The Joseph Center

The Joseph Center is a resource center that provides multiple services to the unhoused and vulnerable populations including, but not limited to, a day shelter for personal care, parental advocacy for help with legal matters, and integrated financial services for assistance in managing Social Security and VA benefits.

Homeless Veteran Care

Homeless Veteran Care is a program provided through the VA to help Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless due to financial hardship, unemployment, addiction, depression, or transition from jail.

Resource Center

The Resource Center is a hard-sided pavilion provided by HomewardBound of the Grand Valley and includes portable restrooms, showers, and opportunities for meals to be provided– along with a centralized space for service providers to offer resource navigation for unhoused community members. HomewardBound provides professional staff at the site during hours of operation and works with a collective of other service providers, nonprofits, and faith-based organizations to provide services for those in need.

Transportation

Grand Valley Transit

Grand Valley Transit is the local public transportation program that accepts cash or bus pass. Grand Valley Transit (GVT) offers both fixed-route services offering eleven routes connecting the City of Grand Junction, City of Fruita, Town of Palisade, and parts unincorporated Mesa County within the metro area as well as Paratransit service for people with mental and physical disabilities who are unable to utilize GVT fixed route system.

Non-Emergent Medical Transportation

Program offered through Health First Colorado for transporting people to their covered health care services and appointments. A caretaker or family member can accompany the patient if requested at time of ride scheduling.

Wellness Programs

Family Health West Wellness

Programs offered to go beyond the benefits of a personal trainer with nutritional coaching, private and small group exercise classes, and hands-on training from experienced exercise physiologists.

Cooking Matters

Cooking Matters is a free program for all ages that teaches people how to cook affordable, delicious, and healthy meals. Through hands-on classes, grocery store tours, and budgeting tips anyone can gain cooking skills and begin to make nutritious choices. It’s all about making good food accessible to everyone.

Food for Life

Food for Life, a program by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, offers nutrition education and cooking classes focused on preventing and managing chronic diseases like cancer and diabetes through plant-based diets. Led by physicians like Dr. Susan Sayers, the classes combine nutrition lectures with live cooking demonstrations, providing participants with practical skills and knowledge to improve their health.

WeCan!

A free program with weekly engagement to help children ages 6 to 18 and their caregivers with healthy lifestyle management to reach and maintain a healthy weight.
