WeCAN! or “Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition” is a local program designed for families to help children reach and maintain a healthy weight.

The 6–12-week program is held every Wednesday night and run by local pediatricians and dieticians from Western Colorado Pediatrics, a division of Primary Care Partners; however, participants do not need to be PCP patients to join the program.

Children ages 6 through 18 and their caregivers are provided with tips and activities on a weekly basis to encourage healthy eating habits, increase physical activity, and spend time away from screen. It’s designed to be fun!  Children get to engage in interactive games and activities, such as cooking demonstrations, gardening, or dancing.

WeCAN! Mesa County is the only ongoing weight program for youth in our community, but COVID has impacted class participation because referrals have come to a pause. If you know of a child with greater than 85 percent BMI for their age and between the ages of 6 and 13-years-old, please consider referring or sharing more information about WeCAN! Mesa County.
